New Snow falling today still leaves trails closed

March 23rd 2011

Unfortunately, this new snow we are receiving will not be enough to re-open the trails. Our base is no longer there with all the mild weather and rain. Many portions of trails are under water and will remain closed for the season.

Please respect our landowners and remain OFF the trails. Let's keep our permissions for next season and keep crop damage to a minimum.

Thank you.

The HSR executive

Trail Update!

March 7th 2011

Lets' keep trails not lose them!

Receiving over 30 mm of rain this past week along with mild weather has significantly damaged our trails . Many sections of  trails are under water.  Therefore  trails are closed.

Although the 3 inches of snow  we received this past Sat evening was well needed  BUT it is what is below that is our concern.

Please refrain from accessing the trails. Many gates, but not all in the hope that we will again be able to ride,  have been closed to help prevent crop damage and loss of land use from our landowners.  Under this blanket of snow are crops that will be damaged if riders continue to ride.  Riding with minimal snow  conditions causes $$$$ crop damage to be paid to our landowners so please stay off  when listed as closed.

Please respect our landowners and stay off closed trails. We have received calls from landowners with their concerns of people riding on closed trails and are ready to revoke permission if riders due to not respect their crops.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.

The HSR Executive.

Important information for our young snowmobile drivers!

January 20th 2011

There is a  misinterpreted or misunderstanding with the use of the Young Snowmobile  Drivers licence. Some  young drivers  with their “Young Drivers Licence” are accessing the OFSC HSR trails with out  supervison. In order to ride our trail system we cross many roads and highways and we want all our young snowmobilers to be safe. The HSR executive want to make sure that the parents and the young licensees are reminded that as long as the young drivers are on an OFSC trail he does not need an adult with him BUT is not permitted to drive on or over any kind of road way without an adult present to cross for him. (Driveways are considered Roadways) If the holder of the "Young Snowmobile Drivers LIcence"   is caught crossing the roads and or highways, they will be charged under the MSV ACT {9.(2)}. There will be a fine and the registered owner of the snowmobile will be charged. There is no suspension provision for this offence. Safety is the message that we want to get across to the parents and young riders. Our patrollers will be setting up stop areas in the hope that we can educate our young drivers. With the season now starting the presence of OPP will be commencing so please ride safe.

16 years of age or older and have a valid Ontario's Drivers Licence? This information is for you:

Drivers 16 and over may operate a snowmobile on OFSC trails and Ontario Highways where legally permitted. They must hold a valid Ontario Driver's Licence, including classes G1, G2, M1,or M2, or a Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator's Licence. Anyone who has does not have a valid Ontario Driver's Licence for whatever reason cannot operate a snowmobile on trails or on highways where legally permitted.

Thank you

HSR’S executive asking our riders to please be respectfull and patient

January 15th 2011

With limited snow that has fallen this season so far please remember to respect our landonwers and stay with in the marked sections of trails AND ONLY ride one trails that have been listed ready to ride. Limited trails are only available to ride due to lack of snow coverage AND some trails landowners still have cattle out grazing this is certainly an indication on how little snow we have.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
