Warning for those who continue to ride on HSR closed trails

January 6th 2009

Warning for those who continue to ride on closed trails!

OPP are currently charging everyone with trespassing that continues to ride on closed trails. Please remain off closed trails.

Riding on CLOSED trails is unsafe and causes crop damage and loss of trails. OPENED GATES DO NOT MEAN TRAILS ARE OPEN FOR RIDING.

GATES ARE REQUIRED TO BE OPENED FOR  TRAIL MAINTENANCE AND PRE-GROOMING! Please check the Snow phone at 519-855-9686 or visit the OFSC web site  at www.ofsc.on.ca for trail conditions.

The Hillsburgh Snow  Roamers are doing everything possible to provide our riders with great trails. Please be patient and as soon as we receive enough snow and we can provide you a great ride we will open.

Thank you.

Trail Update

December 21st 2008

One small loop now open for riding. Please see www.ofsc.on.ca for trail condition updates.

Please respect the landowners and stay off property that is not staked or open for riding. OPEN GATES DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN TRAIL SECTIONS ARE  OPEN! Trail installation has once again started but will  take longer than usual due to the amount of snow. Please be patient as we are trying to give  everyone every opportunity for holiday sledding.

Trails are CLOSED

December 3rd 2008

 Why snowmobile trails are closed

Please respect our landowners and stay off closed trails.
Our trails are graciously lent to us by our landowners/ farmers and due to the amount of snow many of their crops remain on the trail system. Staking will commence when crops are removed.
We thank you in advance for helping preserve your beautiful trails!
Any questions please contact the office at 519-855-9686

Stay off trails for now

December 2nd 2008

The article below is not from our club but does an excellent job of explaining why the trails are not open even though it appears they should be…

Dave Cockburn (left), Daryl Grenville, and John Goodfellow of the Bonsecour Track and Trail Snowmobiling Club are already out on trails with the new Kubota maintenance vehicle purchased this year. But despite early snow, trails are not open for the season.

Early season snow may have riders chomping at the bit to get out on the trails, but with the frost not in the ground yet and trees down from the storms that brought the snow, it’s still too early to be gassing up.

“Just because there’s snow doesn’t mean the trails are ready,” said Dave Cockburn, President of the Bonsecour Track and Trail Snowmobile Club. “There are a lot more issues this year.”

Volunteers have been staking the trails and clearing fallen trees but with 88 kilometres of trail to maintain and only half a dozen volunteers doing the work, it won’t happen overnight. Two stakes are required for every 100 metres and each stake is pounded in by hand.

“We usually start riding around Christmas or New Years,” said Cockburn, who has been part of the Club’s executive for over five years. “But the last couple of years it’s been the first week of December.”
